Briefings for the mission were conducted at 0700 hours for (18) aircrews with (17) taking off commencing at 1030 hours. Captain Weiland of the 577th and Lieutenant Zaccarelli of the 578th were designated as lead Bombardiers. A total of (192) 500# GP bombs were impacted on the target with excellent results. No enemy aircraft were encountered and AA fire was meager, however, (6) Liberators were damaged by flak. All aircraft returned safely for landing around 1800 hours with no losses or casualties.
The 392nd Bomb Group received this teletype addressed to all members of the 2nd Bombardment Division: "The strenuous operations of the past week have been a severe test of the courage and endurance of combat and ground crews. Their splendid response to this test has excited the wholehearted praise of General Spaatz who has asked that I pass on to you his sincere admiration and appreciation. You have displayed the highest order of courage and determination in pressing forward on these missions day after day in the face of exceptionally difficult enemy opposition and weather conditions. We in the Division are proud of you. Hodges"
